Doug grew up around cattle feeding operations, first in
southeast Kansas and later in north central Kansas. He graduated
from Kansas State University with a BS in Animal Science. Upon
graduation, he joined Cattle Fax, a cattle marketing information
service in Denver, where he was promoted to Senior Feedlot Market
Analyst. In 1980, he moved to Bartlett Grain Company in Kansas
City where he was risk manager of their cattle feeding operation
in Texas.
In 1982, Doug joined Buchanan & Company where he established Maverick Marketing Service, a professional risk management advisory service for commercial feedyards and investor feeders. Doug is President of Buchanan & Company, and a member of Kansas Agricultural and Rural Leadership, Inc.

Carrie is a December 2003 graduate from Kansas State University with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Sciences and Industry. She comes from a small farming and cattle operation near Berryton, Kansas, where they raise purebred Simmental and Polled Hereford Cattle and no-till crops. Carrie was very active in 4-H, FFA, and the American and Kansas Junior Simmental Associations throughout high school and college. She is Buchanan & Companys office manager, receptionist and telephone voice.
In May, 2005, Carrie became a licensed commodity broker.
Bill Amstein:
Bill is a
legend in the Kansas cattle business. He is a past KLA President,
first Chairman of the Kansas Beef Council, and served the
National Livestock and Meat Board as Chairman of the Beef
Industry Council. In 1986, he moved to Manhattan to become the Ag
Alumni Development Coordinator for the KSU College of
Agriculture. He retired from that position in 1995, but has
agreed to come out of retirement to work for Buchanan and Company
on a part-time basis, helping with customer contacts, account
maintenance and market quotes.
