Unit Conversions:

Most of the world prices commodities by the kilogram or metric ton, and measures land in hectares. Here are some conversion factors that make it easier to get a handle on international commodity reporting.

Definitions:

Short Ton: An ordinary American ton -- 2000 lbs.
Metric Ton: 1000 kilograms or 2,204.6 lbs.
Long Ton: 2240 lbs. (used mainly in Great Britain)
Hectare: 10000 square meters
Greenwich time: The time at 0º longitude. Used in many weather reports. Central Standard time is 6 hours and Central Daylight time is 5 hours behind Greenwich. Often designated with a "Z". Two PM CST is 20Z. Click here to see times around the world.
